FROM A WARDROBE IN THE SUN

IMG_3798 Before i had any knowledge in suit fabrics, I found the thought incorporating waist coats into my wardrobe quite absurd, considering the fact I live in the tropics where it’s humid all year long. I have encountered a lot of gentlemen who share this ignorant view and i believe it’s mainly due to their little or no knowledge in the types of fabric that exist. Most men on a good day will not go past the color and fit of a suit, which usually leads to bad-buys, and the inability to distinguish the appropriating suiting for different seasons. For example , I find it amusing how a lot of gentlemen gawk at any suit with a slashed price

DOUBLE BREASTED JACKET BY LORO PIANA

183027_mrp_in_xl Daydreaming about having my favorite vanilla and chocolate cookies at my Favourite cafe in this half lined cotton double breasted blazer from north of Italy’s celebrated menswear pillar is what I usually do with my downtime at work. I am not going to dive into how amazing the brand is; as far as visuals go, justice has been done, this jacket is a beauty!

MEANWHILE IN BEIGE ISLAND,

MENSWEAR AFRICA Beige is slowly taking over my wardrobe, this three button hopsack jacket from racing green is the third beige jacket I have picked up this year, and it just happens to be my favorite one for obvious reasons ; soft tailoring, unconstructed and very flattering silhouette makes it hard to go through the weekend without this jacket.

THE SURGEON’S CUFF

IMG_5721Why do you uncuff your sleeve? Undoing a button on functioning sleeve seems like a fairly innocent and graceful act of style and preference until you get asked to explain the reason behind it.I would like to point out that Questions from individuals who are totally oblivious to the happenings in menswear puts a neat paw on why menswear is so crazy about certain things, it makes you wonder if the surgeon’s cuff has a chance wearing the white ”button” and saving the world. According to history, Savile Row was inhabited largely by surgeons

TOP BOSS, TOP BUTTON.

tumblr_n5epvz6f4S1rf1jvro1_1280 I recently discovered this photo of a 1982 gentleman wearing five buttoned jacket with just the top button done up and I instantly caught some fresh dose of inspiration behind my desk. Without color it’s pretty much easy to stare at this photo on end just of the sheer execution of fit and the very infectious sense of character.

A LITTLE OVER THE EDGE, JUST A BIT .

allen coleman style I am always encouraging people to play Around with their wardrobe but it seems I never do. Coming from a t-shirt and pair of jeans background, stepping to a more sartorial plane sort of convinced me there was little room to play about without running into another  rule of thumb. Lately without too much thought  I have been trying to incorporate a little edge from my street wear days into my wardrobe, and these gum soled wallabees from Clarks couldn’t have picked a better time to make a comeback on my shoe rack.

SUMMER NOTES

Khaled-8 The contrast border pocket square has gone up the menswear love ladder pretty fast, you can’t go a page on any menswear inspired tumblr page or blog without spotting one. Like every item of clothing that becomes extremely popular there is always a dedicated group of individuals joining the bandwagon for all the wrong reasons, in the case of the contrast lined pocket square there is o exemption. I nicked two photos off the internet to demonstrate how the contrast pocket square should be done. In the photo above a white pocket square with orange contrast sits comfortably in the breast pocket echoing both the bold solid orange necktie and the subtle presence of orange in the patterned jacket, is it much? Very much. When you throw color around like that it  looks desperate and less thought out, my orange lined pocket square matches my tie, wow that was rocket science? The trick is to go light on the coordination and more on making the contrast pocket square complement the ensemble than ask for attention.

PURPLE + GREEN

TAILORING AFRICAWith my dark complexion i should be very warm to the use of loud colors according to skin tone and color rule, but unfortunately i tend to stay from too much color simply because i find it too desperate, almost like a call for unneeded attention. I’ll bet on being  the last one in the room to root for an odd jacket in a loud color, but in my defense for  this purple three button jacket from Zegna I humbly submit to my obsession with rusty hues of bright colors, i cant resist almost any color in  linen with darling wrinkles as beautiful as these.

LE SARTORIAL

sartorial With the internet and its 2 million style bloggers there is a lot to pick inspiration from, but one thing I always maintain is not get distracted from your ‘’comfortables’’. There are certain items that I wish I could pull off, and even though it makes me tingle with frustration I never stray from my clothes that work for me. I might never walk the streets in short-shorts but I definitely know how to work a medium length shorts and a blazer. I love wearing shorts, aside from the excuse to show some skin, I love it how it tones down a jacket for the perfect weekend rendezvous.
